damn... aint had that happen to me. but i did have my s bolt slip into my tb makin it stuck in wide open throttle. talk about rush... i dropped my buddies off, threw it in neutral and shut the truck off. then, stupidly, cranked it up and threw it in drive. left 20 foot skid marks, ran a stop sign and hit about 75 before pullin in my neghborhood.

At what speed are you allowed to downshift out of curiosity. I'm just rather curious as far as harm to the tranny. In your case I know 70 is probably not good for the tranny lol, but I know my buddy drops it down when he comes into town so he can "hear his exhaust"... mainly the back rumble. I don't do that, but is there a safe speed (or better yet, rpm) you can drop down in. I know in my area, there is this one spot where you go 55 MPH and once you reach the top of the hill, it drops to 25 MPH down this hill you have been climbing for minutes. In this case I've dropped it down before and just sparingly used my brakes down the hill. (its a long hill). Maybe this isn't the right spot to ask, but shoot since were on the discussion of tranny's shifting down, why not.

Some cars have a safety that will allow you to downshift but the transmission doesn't actually downshift until you decelerate to a certain speed. I'm guessing these trucks will downshift then at any speed.

I think my grand prix will downshift around 45 and then to first at 25.

I dont see how. Gears 1-3 aremanually controlled by tranny, only over drive.. (4th) is computer controlled. Altho I do get a different shift pattern if OD is off?? I cant explain it, but I don't see how yours will downshift at a certain speed like you say. Iunno...

I know my GP will not upshift at allif you are in 1st or 2nd. But won't downshift either until said speeds are reached.

My stock transmission wouldn't shift into first if you were going over 25 or so. I don't know if it would shift into 2nd at high speeds or not. The new APS one will shift into whatever gear I put it in. If I put it in 1st at 50mph it seems to go into first. He told me about this when I got it too and I decided to try it about 30-35 and sure enough it downshifted to 1st and revved up. It wouldn't have done that before.
