Default Whats happening to my exhaust tips?

What is happening to my exhaust tips? About 6 months ago I had my exhaust redone and had them use stainless steel tips. I'm very unhappy with these. I didn't want chrome ones because the last ones rusted out but atleast they looked good for a few years until they rusted out. These are 6 months old and look like crap. They have turned a yellowish tint which doesn't suprize me as all the other stainless steel stuff I have had has done this.

Anyways it has started looking like this. It has been like this for a while but seems like its getting worse in spots. I don't know how to explain it but it doesn't seem like it's something on it as it's just as smooth feeling as can be. I tried polishing it and it might have slightly helped but not a ton if any. Anyone have an idea of what it is and how to get it off? Or if I need to replace my tips anyone know of ones that come in this size that are good and won't do this crap again?

+1 If you had them welded on, it probably did that right near the weld as sson as the guy wsa done welding them. It won't rust, but it'll turn that color after a time. You think that's bad you should check out some SS headers. Maybe Shott would snap you a pic or two, I think he's using gibby stainless headers.

So then why do people want Stainless steel tips? I'd rather them just rust on me 3 years later than look bad the whole time.

So is basically the only way to fix this get chrome tips? I think I may try to find some as my chrome ones never looked like this nor did they ever turn this yellowish color. They just rusted after several years. It sucks though because a lot of shops around here don't sell chrome tips anymore just stainless. Any idea where I can get chorme ones? Would chrome be the best option to avoid this happening?

I had stainless ones on a truck I used to drive and they turned colors very quick and I could never get them to look good anymore. I've just gone with chrome on my car and my Ram. I'd rather replace them every few years than have them turn colors.

Exactly how I feel. I'd also rather put $70 worth of tips on every few years than have them look like crap. Where did you get the chrome ones? The shops around here want to sell me stainless steel tips only and say they don't have chrome.

Why not just take your stainless tips to a shop and get them chrome plated yourself? It'd probably be cheaper.
