Default Fix your transmision with this I gurantee

Actually I don't guaruntee but, I think it's funny. I've always heard that the most common problem with transmisions is the amount of oil in it. I've told you all about the problems that I was having with my transmision. I found that if I let the truck sit for a couple of days the problem would go away and I could deive it just fine for a couple of minutes. SO I started to think that maybe I had over filled the transmision. I pulled over and checked it and it was just and then I remebered that someone had said you have to check it in nuetral. I've never had to put a transmision in nuetral to check so I figured what the hell I'll try it. I checked in nuetral and low and behold it's really low. So I put in some more fluid and now it drives perfectly. Thats one more for the newb. FTW newbie

I bet you if you'd have taken to a shop they'd have been happy to rebuild your transmission for $2,000

It's a little iffy but, hey if I break it I can just fix it again. It's like making a check list and then checking half of it off because you've already done it .

Seriously though every vehicle I've ever owned you checked it in park and yea the engine was running.

I'm pretty certain it even says in the Haynes manual to check it in park. One of those manuals I know says park, confused the hell out of me.

But get this. I once took my Explorer to a dealership because the transmission was, I thought, shifting funny, and they actually didn't tell me that it was shot and I needed a rebuild. They said it was ok, just the engine bucking. I even thought the tranny was shot...don't know if they woke up and felt like being honest for just 1 day or what.

Breaking sht, and having to fix it yourself because you don't have the cash to have someonefix itis EXACTLY the best way to learn about trucks/cars/boats.

The right way to check the transmission fluid is to.... 1) Start you truck. 2) Engage the parking brake. 3) Put the transmission into neutral to circulate the transmission fluid 4) pull and wipe off the dip stick 5) insert said stick all the way and pull back out and check level.

Yes!!! Someone called it a "Parking Brake" and not an "Emergency Brake".

I always referred to it as the hill brake, but that's just the backwoods native Hoosier in me.
