Default RE: engine knock/ping

Mine's doing the same. I have a blown intake manifold gasket, which causes a vacuum in the valve train. Also there is a known problem with the routing of the spark plug wires. Check out http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1997-index.htm Specifically TSB's 09-05-00 which deals with the Intake Manifold Gasket and 18-48-98 which deals with rerouting the plug wires. I would recommend checking for the vacuum in the valve train first, but that's just because I've done everything under the sun for mine just now to find the problem. There is supposed to be a small amount of pressure in the valve train and I'm pulling 2.5 lbs of vacuum.
