I uasally let it warm up for a couple min. Its dam cold where i live so i need to let it warm up. Does it need to be in neutral to fill the TC back up?
The pump doesn't operate in Park, so when you pull it out of park you are just engaging the pump so if you let it set in neutral for 10-15 secs and the pull it to drive and it takes off right away then I would suspect leakdown. This is the same reason you are told to check the fluid level with the motor running and the trans in neutral so that the pump has everything is up to full capacity.

The reason you have to give it a little bit of gas to get it moving after sitting a while is due to the design of the transmission. The torque converter slowly leaks its fluid back into the tranny. So you have to get moving for a little bit to get all the fluid back into the converter.

The owner's manual for my truck even says that it will be sluggish at first after sitting for a few days.
