Engine ground straps melting, help?
I have no freekin clue why my ground straps keep melting. I did it once before, but that was only because I hooked up the battery to the head rather than to the alternator. I fixed that (this was a couple months ago) and didnt have an issue. The fire melted the wires, so I replaced them. Every time I go to start they start smoking and get hot. Any ideas?
Usually if that happens there is either a bad connection, or maybe the fire did something to your starter causing it to draw more power than is usually required, or something is shorting out when you turn the key, melting the ground straps.

You have a short. Sorry, you may need to check the entire electrical.
Start at the engine first. It is the major power. check the wires for wear, check all the connections. Take your time

if everything got replaced after the fire, maybe at the relay, after sending power out to load ,you also have power going to the ground ,instead of where its saposed to go.just fallow the wires.

Well I would check all of your wires for the alternator and for the starter to make sure nothing is touching on the block, and did you replace your alternator? Something may be shorting out in there...

didnt replace the alternator, it looked like it was good, I may have to go get it tested to be sure.
Does anyone know if the bracing that goes btwn the block and the trans (oil pan to bellhousing) is part of a circut. I chose not to put them back on.

jk... good luck figuring it out tho.
