I thought it was kind of suspiciousat first too when I installed my hughes plenum kit, But it seems to be holding up well with no RTV sealant

It seems I should be preparing to get shoulders deep over the fender for this project too. I have a 95 with the 5.2. What I'm getting out of everything I have read is- the whole top-end has to come off and everything that has a gasket will need a new one. To the guys that have done this. Any tips or problems I may run into that you might be able to give me the heads up on? I have
1. Loss of power
2. 1/4 qt oil loss every 3000 mi.
3. Hissing coming from ?????
4. bad cold starts and almost stalling after any rev up.
5. almost had enough with fixing this truck, But I still love it enough to break my back for it.

i got the hughes kit.

it was Plenum plate, bolts, and gasket- second day air = 116.00

used no rtv...had manifold completely clean, and as of now (6500 miles later) when i shine a flashlight into my manifold she sparkles...not one drop of oil....and it would be VERY easy to tell cuz my manifold is all silver on the inside

and i bought fel-pro intake gaskets, for i changed my plenum the first time and got the hughes intake kit with bolts for 75.00 i believe (shipping included) so i re-used the hughes bolts, and they stll torqued down

Im going to be watching this thread too... as I will probably plan to do mine in May when the semester is over. To the person who mentioned that hughes says not to use rtv, I am kind of curious as to why... hmm, I can't figure that one out. I know when I work on my 4 wheeler with the side cover off, I buy the paper gaskets and put some ultra black (high oil resistance) on my finger and smear over the gasket surface on both sides. Bolt it up and never have any problems. For the amount of work put in to this, I surely wouldn't want to have to re-do it

You drive a Dodge Ram. Your plenum gasket is blown.

They told me not to use it as well, supposedly because the gasket has to expand and contract with the metal around it, and the RTV will restrict it from expanding/contracting.

However, someone else (I think it was Sheriff) was told by Hughes that RTV was OK to use, so maybe they've changed their story now.

I (obviously) used the Hughes kit. Can't remember exact price, but mine was a little more because I threw away their gasket and got the Felpro from my local O'Reillys. Its a much better looking gasket, although I'm sure the Hughes one does the job fine.
