Default No parking lights / dash lights

Hey, I'm runnin a 94 cummin's single cab long box. Recently put on the road after I put some work in it.

I am having a problem a problem blowing the 15 Amp fuse for the parking lights / dash lights.

It would appear I have a wire grounding out somewhere in the truck but I am clueless as where to look.

I looked over all the rear lighting system and all seems ok. I put a new CD player and stereo in about 3 months ago and it has been fine until recently. I never had a highbeam light indicator in my dash, and I used to be able to turn on my parking lights without any running lights. I'm guessing the daytime running light module was unplugged in order to do this. I want to see if that plug is possibly grounding out but I am unsure where the daytime running light module is on this truck.

If anybody had a short in the parking lights/dash lights circuit could you leave a reply where you found it and maybe I could start with those places.

Any ideas greatly appreciated, Thanks!

I was doing a search and some people have had bad headlight switches cause this? How could I test the headlight switch? Would it get hot if it was shorting?

I should also mention it "pops" the fuse right away now. I got lucky once and it lasted about 4 hours of driving. But not anymore...

Thanks for the help, its been very cold outside and I don't want to be working on a cold truck anymore than I have to right now!

Try this, make sure lights are turned off, then turn headlight switch to where your dash lights would be dimmed down to off. Replace blown fuse, then turn on headlights. You should have park lights but no dash lights. Slowly turn headlight switch to brighten dash lights. If they don't slowly increase in brightness but go bright all at once then it most likely is the switch. If the fuse blows before turning up dash lights then most likely a problem in park lights wiring. If fuse blows after dash lights slowly brighten then it could still be switch or in dash

wiring.

OK, starting to become confused/frustrated.

Changed headlight switch with one from a parts yard. Still popping fuses.

Found a short at my rear license plate light, removed section of bad wiring, replaced fuse, still popping fuses.

Disconnected the main wiring harness connector to eliminate any power going to any of the wiring to the rear of the truck (two connectors under drivers side door/drivers side front fender). Still popping fuses.

All of this was done with the dash light dim control in the "off" position.

Checked relay, OK.

I am running out of ideas...? I think my next step is remove my battery's and see what I can find near my front corner lights? Anybody have an idea of what connectors I could disconnect to isolate other systems which may be shorting??

OK, think I figured it out.

Two things were shorting...

Buddy had tried to install fog lights previously. He had spliced into the main parking light power wire (black with yellow tracer if I can remember right). He had spliced in the wiring harness going underneath the rad support, so the fog lights would come on with the parking lights. But the fog lights had since been burnt out and with all the snow/salt/slush krap being thrown up against it, it was shorting out through the empty bulb socket.

The other was that rear license plate light.

Just thought I'd mention it if anybody in the future had weird parking light fuse blowing issues...

Hi,

I'm having the same problem with my '05 neon. The license plate light blew and melted the socket. I cut off the entire assembly but still popping fuses. Any ideas on what to do next?

make sure it's making a good ground, most of the lights for the plate ground themselves so make sure the housing is making good contact to metal,
