well I still have a problem with my 2001 ram; when I take off from a dead stop even at 1/4 throttle it feels like there is a sudden "thud" under the middle of the truck. I went underneath the truck to check the transmission mount...looks very good.. I even attempted to tighten the bolts on it...they are tight. I checked my front end joints they seam tight...is there anything else it could possibly be. The only way it does not do it if I let it coast for a second or two and then hit the gas after it is already rolling.

U joints or an engine mount are your most likely culprits.

I agree with Junior. Check your U joints & engine mounts.

That's my guess how hard are the U joints to replace on these trucks? Thanks

Not hard. Harbor Freight sells a u-joint/ ball joint service set for ~$35. Or it was when I bought one anyway.

All you need is socket and a hammer to change u-joints, dont buy any special tools
