Simply gutting the cat is a bad idea.

Replacing it with a piece of pipe the same size as the pipe would be fine, you may get a bit more power out of it. Or if you want the visual appearance of a catalytic converter on your truck you could pound a pipe through the cat that is the same size as the surrounding exhaust pipe.

But simply gutting the cat will create a bottleneck in the exhaust system and you will lose power.

I know it is not a good idea to just gut the converter, but it is better than listening to the rattling from it breaking up inside. I will have it completely removed and have pipe run later, but I am enjoying not having to listen to my exhaust making a rattling noise everyday.
