Default WTF Where to replace Cat for a good price?

Wow I just got of the phone with Midas and they wanted $850 to replace my cat! Please tell me this is not a decent price. If i brought him my own cat he said 150. StillI think thats high to just weld it on there? Do you guys know of any place I should try in the New England area? Or should i do it myself? I cant weld so I would have to do a bolt on.

Update: called Meineke and he wanted 325 for a high flow cat. That sounds alot more reasonable.

Yep, what cereal said.

I would just get yourself a high-flow cat and clamp it on there, or put it on and you should be able to get a muffler shop to weld it up for $80-120 bucks. Do you have emissions testing? If not I would just weld a piece of pipe in there and call it good.

I got my Super 44 + Magnaflow High Flow Catalytic Converter + labor + small amounts of pipe (since the Super 44 is so much smaller than a stock muffler) for $400 at Meineke.

A clamp on would obviously be a lot less, especially if you did it yourself, but I prefer welds. And since I don't have a welder...

yeah deffinatly never get the parts from the muffler shops, they gotta make money right so they jack the prices ,up. get your stuff from summit, and use the savings to spend on the labour, magnaflow cats are super popular right now, u can get the universals CHEAP, or the stock fitting magnaflows for a decent price, i see em on ebay alot.

I'm planning to get TWO of the metallic "Thunderbolt Spin Cats" when I get long tube headers shown at the bottom of this page:
http://www.performance-curve.com/ind...mp;Category=17
I'm hoping two 3"metallics willflow almost as well as no cats at all.

Metallic flows better than ceramic. Pretty good prices here, stainless too!

No, I have not used these, or bought from this company before.

I paid $64.50 for my Magnaflow - P/N 94037 with free shipping, and a flat rate of $50 to have it welded on at a neighborhood exhaust shop.

You can get the head pipes and the cat for 175 from summit. They are bolt ons, and a Super 44 is 79. If you just want the cat, go to ebay, Magnaflow sells one.

Man i went to a Shop today as someone cut the converter out of mine, and they did a crap job putting it back together. Louder then heck in the Cab. They priced it as 650 with Duel stainless 3 inch tips. New Converter, and a flowmater 40 Series. I am still thinking i should do the convert part myself. I just dont like the idea of having to use those crap clamps on the one at Summit http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku

I would just put a new converter in. But like i said who ever had it before me. Really Jacked it up.
