JR Mechanic They say that this cooler will keep it cooler than the origional one in the rad. And it eliminates the potential for the fluids to get mixed together if there is a inner wall leak inside. Do you feel this would cause any problems.

Has anyone else heard of this or have any Ideas or thoughts?

go with choice #2. but def read 01dodgeram360's post about his tranny.

after reading that, i would personally go with one of those 3 companies (APS, fastman, dr evil). Then again, you might not be cursed like him. I had my tranny rebuilt with HD internals and a shift kit and upgraded bands in 2003. Still shifts like its brand new. So i guess its all in your area, the people workin at the shop, and your over all "trust" of the shop.

Local shops are the way to go, you just have to know what you are getting. If he goes with APS, Dr. Evil, or a Fastman, he is already at $3000+, then he has to have it installed.

#2 sound like the better option but find out exactly what kind of internals they replace with updated ones.
Hopefully they are bypassing the original aux cooler and replacing it with a larger better design.
Bypassing the cooler in the radiator is a bad move, especially if you have cold winters in your area.

$3000 ?

I'll have to scan my receipt at home, but I only paid Dr. Evil about $2100 for my "Pure Evil" Tranny. That price included delivery to Minneapolis, new towing torque converter, deep tranny pan, large tranny cooler, and enough Redline ATF+4 fluid for install and 1 fluid change at 12,000 miles. I paid $600 to have it installed.

Wow, good deal. I was reading that other people were getting quotes from fastman and APS for way more than that, but I have to say that $2700 installed is a pretty good price...

My experience with a local shop is this. Find one that builds transmissions for race vehicles. I.E. drag cars etc. They generally have the abilityto build a bullet proof tranny. The guy that built mine races a drag car and he also built a tranny that of friend of mine used in a racing swamp buggy that raced in Naples Florida( As seen previously on the old Nashville Network several years back.) That machine had very large diameter tractor type tire and was driven with a 605 cu. inch 1000hp Big Block Chevy engine and it held up well. He used to use a different shop to rebuild his tranny but he kept tearing out the pump gears and twisiting the shaft until he switched rebuilders. The guy I use also rebuilds many police cars, ambulances and what not who are very hard on trannys. Talk to any of the racers near you to see if they would recommend someone.

if you go the rebuild route spend another $65 and
insist on a new torque converter...not a rebuilt one

I also think it is worth the extra money to get
new electrical parts...including the solenoids
