Almost Overloaded it!
Had to bring home some drywall last Friday for my lower level and I think I kinda overdid it. My truck has the 6 foot bed and I hauled 36 sheets of 4 X 12 1/2 inch drywall in one trip. At 84 lbs per sheet that was over 3000 lbs with 3/4 of the weight behind the rear axle.
Drove it the 30 miles home without any problems, tranny and rear differential ran cool, overload suspension (Hellwig LP-35's) didn't even sink all the way down, and my load range E tires didn't even look stressed. However, after we unloaded the drywall I closed my tailgate and noticed that it is slightly bowed in the center. It still closes but it has a 1/4 inch gap right in the middle. Guess I overdid it a little with the drywall.
Oh well, at least I know that my Dodge can take it. Now I can talk the wife into that fifth wheel tailgate that I've been wanting. Yes!

Most I've had in mine is about 2300lbs. A full pallet of pavers for the front of my parents house. Plus whatever my cap weighs. It was sagging horribly lucky for me the drive was only a few miles.
Here's a picture of my truck with 2 tons of limestone in the back lol. It sagged a little, but the only worry spot wasthat I didn't havegood tires at the time. Had some ****ty Kelly Safari's that shoulnd't even have been on the truck.

These trucks can deffinetly handle more than the 1600 lbs they're rated for. Tranny didn't even give me any **** shifting. Woulnd't do it everyday though that's for sure.

if i read this right tha actual tailgate is bent now???
i dont think it is the weight that did it, im a full time contractor and have done the same but i think it was the fact that you got the 12' boards. next time put 2 2x10'son the floor of the bed with a 2 x 4 running sideways underneath the 2 x 10's right before the tailgate this should keep anything from touching the tailgate.
