These trucks can deffinetly handle more than the 1600 lbs they're rated for. Tranny didn't even give me any **** shifting. Woulnd't do it everyday though that's for sure.
Yeah, these trucks are def. able to do more than they are rated for, my uncle's stock 96 318 auto pulls his 3000lb trailer and 8000lb cherry picker no problem.
That's nothing, there's a guy here that towed a 9500 lb excavator, but his truck was lifted and had a killer exhaust.

Another guy with a 2500 towed a train...

if i read this right tha actual tailgate is bent now???

i dont think it is the weight that did it, im a full time contractor and have done the same but i think it was the fact that you got the 12' boards. next time put 2 2x10'son the floor of the bed with a 2 x 4 running sideways underneath the 2 x 10's right before the tailgate this should keep anything from touching the tailgate.
I actually had 2 2X6's 12 foot in the bed, but I also have fifth wheel rails so they kinda leaned downward onto the tailgate. I'll have to try the extra 2X4 for added lift next time. And yes the tailgat is bent, kinda warped in the middle.

The cherry picker and trailer weigh 11,000 together

I regularly pull a 9000 lb fifth wheel camper, so I was never concerend about the overall weight. It's just that all of it was in the box, or should I say 75% of it was behind the rear wheels with4 feet of ithanging out over the tailgate.

The thing with my uncles truck though, its a 318, stock auto tranny that does not shift if you romp on it, he as to drive it like a granny because if the pressure in the tranny gets too high, it blows the lucas out from around the seals and it wont shift And he has to let it warm up for 15 minutes in the winter since 75% of the ATF is actually lucas.
