Self Explainitory, i just want to know what is the easiest way to remove it?

when i replaced mine in my 01, i did not have to drop the exhaust pipes. i tried to get the oil pan off w/o removing the starter and dust cover, but i couldn't get the oil pan lip to unlock from the dust cover. it just seems so stupid to have to remove the starter...
