O/D off the whole trip
+4

I've got a 96 with a 318 in it and a Sundowner 2 horse bumper pull. It is all the truck will do to stay at 65-70 MPH with 2 horses and gear in the trailer, and forget it when going up hill. Turn your OD off and leave it off the whole trip especially if you don't have a tranny cooler.

you know ive been reading this post form the begining and i reposted on fri what i pull, and how far, aaaaaand you should be able to pull some of the way with od on;well i seem to have forgotten how much horses wiegh, also i had stayed late at my shop for beers, and just maybe wasnt.....alright sleds about 500lbs a peice x5= 2500lbs + trailer 2200lbs+gear 300lbs= 5000lbs.ok depending on what breed you have the prolly weigh about 1100-1300 a peice;so say1200x4=4800+2200 trlr + gear, say 100 per horse; well you are alot more heavier then i, so i was way off, sorry.im pulling more of what cowboybob is pulling but with a 360,and in cold climate.im sure u did fine, but i deffinatlly redirect my opinion to say +8 on no od.no od.deffinatly no od;no problem.

Hehe, these horses are babies, maybe 800lbs each (only 3 of them), and the only gear I'll have with me is a few ropes and halters, 2 bales of hay, and maybe a few buckets. I'm leaving Asheville, NC, on thursday night the 27th, and going to the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington. I thank everyone for the advice. I will take it slow, OD off, and watch the temp gauges like a hawk. I haven't been to Lexington since I was a little kid, so I really don't remember the highways. If anyone wants to email me some phone numbers in case I run in to trouble on the way, it would be much appreciated. PyroKarma@yahoo.com.
