while im driving at certain rpms ill hear a rattlin noise and then shell shiftor its right as shes shifting i should say now i know my cat has started to go a lil and planned to do something in the area now is this my cat rattlin when its gonna shift or is my tranny makin a rattlin noise i can hear it on my drivers side clear its not everytime i take off but often im just worrying bout trans issues starting it sounds like a tin can but nothing is visibly loose that i can tell she was hot anybody heard this and got some ideas or am i in the ballpark.......j

 

with the truck off and the catalytic cool to the touch bang on it, you should hear it rattle. mine rattled when it was idling and was very clearly broken.

 

Smack the cat (when it's cold) with a rubber mallet or the heel of your hand to see if it rattles. If it does, replace it.

 

so its most likely that cat though....im just concerned it was all of a sudden a diff noise and it thru me off just worried bout the damn tranny seems everyones having trouble with theres....sorry but i just dont need it right yet......j

 

Oh, don't worry about the transmission going, because it will.
Everyone here has either rebuilt or replaced theirs.
its just a matter of time (miles).

 

I've got a similar rattle but I believe mine is a bad valve guide.
