Default '99 1500 Brake Upgrade

I've been searching on the forum regarding brake upgrades for 1500 Ram's since the stock brake setup leaves a lot to be desired... especially since I have upgraded to 20" wheels.

Anyway, I have been reading about some of the options out there in the following threads;
https://dodgeforum.com/m_1025264/tm.htm
https://dodgeforum.com/m_511650/tm.htm
https://dodgeforum.com/m_498851/tm.htm

I'm on a tight budget, and the rear cylinder upgrade falls right into my price category. For the fronts I am going to upgrade to different rotors and pads.

My question is this..

After reading through the various posts, I am confused as to which cylinder I need for the rear drums. One of the threads talks about using a GMC dually cylinder, and the other talks about using a 1-ton Dodge cylinder. Can someone who has performed this upgrade offer a little more insight to clear up the confusion. Because I know if I called the parts store and explained what I was doing they will tell me it won't work ~ when obviously people have had success with it.

The second question I have is, are there better shoes out there than the stocks? Believe it or not this is the first vehicle I've owned with Drum brakes, so I am unfamiliar with how you can upgrade them.

Thanks for the help!

^^^^Thanks, I've thought about upgrading to braided brake lines, and I may add those while doing the brake upgrade.^^^

Still looking for info on the drum brake cylinder upgrade if anyone has any. I am hoping to buy the parts ASAP, so finding out which parts I need exactly would be a huge help!

Found a very detailed thread regarding the rear cylinder upgrade. Looks like I need the same year Ram 3500 Dually cylinder w/ the 1-3/16" bore.

Anyone else interested in this upgrade, check out the threads I posted above, as well as this one.

Pretty much answered all my questions.... wish me luck!

I'll post up my results once I finish the brake job ~ maybe this weekend. I'll try and take some photos also while I do it.

I would be interested in how it goes.... I only have the braided lines... no other mods to my brake system...
