Default Skipping Problem

So I have a heavy foot...very heavy...anyway. I noticed that when my truck is hit hard and the RPM on the tech are at umm 6000 I think it truck seems to skip...like getting hit in the stomach. Any idea what would cause that?

Only happens are high RPMS, thanks in advance all.

Not sure how high in the rpm range you are going, but if it feels like it is hesitating or misfiring you may be hiting the rev limiter.
I haven't had my ram long and use it for work so I don't drive it hard enough to have hit the rev limiter so I am not sure what rpm it isset at on the 1500. Hope this helps.

You sounded like the old me. Be prepared to be subject to huge criticism and lack of sympathy

I'll tell you before at first hand before they do...It's a truck! If you want to go fast, you have the wrong automobile.

Now I don't want to be a hypocrite here because I used to be the same way, but I learned the hard way.I ruined my transmission, and my posi unit from always flooring it and peeling out like a big idiot. I am no longer going to slam my truck like its a mustang, and just wait till I can afford a mustang[8D]

Nah your right, I read most of your huge thread....I'll attempt to do all my own work except for transmission...I tried that once and caused more trouble than I knew.

I think it is the rev limiter, I need to adjust it a little.

Youre right its not a mustang...Ive just always had a heavy foot. on all my vehicles!

lol I completely got you on that one. It's a huge habit of mine as well. Theres just something about opening up a big v8, or any vehicle at that, it's an addiction all right. But now that I look back, I just feel bad for my truck. It's abuse. They aren't meant to be opened up for racing all the time. I really could have prolonged the life of my transmission had I drove like a normal person, and saved my posi unit. I plan to change my entire driving style if and when I get my truck back. I love speed too man, a lot. I just have to wait till I can get a vehicle that is designed for speeding first, otherwise I'll just blow my truck up doing something it wasn't designed for![8D] Besides, 6,000 rpms is really high man lol!

Ok I thing Pony above said it might be the rev limiter misfiring....

More information on this skipping: It occurs also when I am on the highway trying to pass some a&@ and my rpm gets about 4500 if memory serves right. It skips or as pony said below misfires. Any other idea or a way I can fix this? Other than that the truck runs great.

I want to learn how to fix this stuff myself, I learn = saving money. Thanks guys

The rev limiter on Ram's is set at 5250RPM's stock. You'll know it when you hit it because it will drop cylinders in order to keep you from breaking your truck. Adjusting any higher without appropriately modifying the engine to take that kind of abuse is asking for trouble. You don't drive a sports car, you drive a 5000lbs. truck.

If you want to beat on a vehicle, sell the Ram and drive a Honda. They're easy to work on, parts are cheap, and they can take a helleva licking.

You're truck's made for towing, not showing. There are a few guys here that are pushing them hard, but they're doing it the right way, and it definitely ain't cheap.

rev limiter doesnt cause misfiring. The rev limiter is not a unit, its not tangible. Its a set rpm in the computer where it no longer allows the motor to do its job so to speak. I dont know how it is in our trucks but it either cuts fuel, spark, or throttle. (ours isnt throttle certantly). There is nothing wrong with your truck. Thats how it is supposed to be. I dont think yours is going more than 5200 rpm. You would probably break a pushrod. http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y57...t=MVI_0662.flv Thats 5750.
