Another powertrax nightmare!
Well... this is the 2nd richmond powertrax locker I blew up... it blew it while making a hard 90 degree turn into 60 mph traffic... so I had it wfo... it hooked up at first, I herd this SLAM and a whole bunch of CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK while its spinning one tire like no other...
I got it apart tonight and the little tooth that is on the synchro broke right off, and was just chilling inside of there. The teeth are a little chewed from Im guessing the clucnk clucnk clunk noises I was hearing... but I just think this is rediculous.
it has been in there for 2 months about (first one lasted a week, for those who dident already know). 50% of that time the roads were compeatly covered with snow, so there couldent be much of any wear/abuse put on the locker... 40% was half and half slippery roads, so I never really had the chance to do much of anything to it... and the rest of the time was normal dry roads... so there really isnt much use on this thing.
I find it hard to belive that they can sell this as an OFFROAD LOCKER!!!! my SECOND unit from them DIDENT EVEN MAKE IT TILL OFFROAD SEASON!!!! I never went offroading with it ONCE!
Not to mention the nightmare the truck was to drive... belive me a full locker and a extremly worn trac bar dont go together... everytime the locker would lock/ unlock the whole truck would shift and the steering would be all over the place to keep it on the road... the backlash was awful, I have nothing good to say about these lockers... as ive already stated many times.
I pretty much made this thread to rant...
I will be calling richmond gear when ever I get the chance (not looking like soon with work/school and im going to be going to the doctor soon on anytime I have due to a pretty bad dirtbike whipe out this weekend... messed my neck up pretty bad... But anyways my frined says I should make this buy me a auburn LSD... Does anyone think that is even posiable?
If they dont do that which I dont expect I will demand a replacement and sell it on ebay as a brand new one... hopefully being able to get some of the money I sunk into their **** product.
Any help as to dealing with richmond? I havent had anything to this degree ever happen to me, so im kinda lost as to what to do... obviously a product flaw.
I know they will cry and bitch that it wasent set up properly, I have no way of proving it... but their "go- no go" block said it was set properly (according to them, if that worked properly its set up) but I also measured the gap with OD mics and it was in spec... right dead center of their maximum gap, and minimum gap...
Sorry about spelling/grammer... ive had a crazy day and im really tired.
Anyone who has one of these pos I highly advise junking it... it may not go as fast as mine, becasue you probably arnt near as hard on your vehicle as me (im pretty hard on it) but its a ticking time bomb.

Wow, two going that quick is pretty odd.
I ran a lock-rite in my first Jeep for a long *** time with no problems. I assume the install is pretty similar, and IIRC it would be pretty hard to screw up. Those things really aren't that complicated.
Hope everything gets sorted out the way you want.

Ya, the first one was a lockrite... thats the one that grenaded in a week...
I paid a 120 dollar "upgrade fee" to get to the slightly better No slip.
Ya, install is extrmely simple... im very mechanically inclinded and have done MUCH MUCH more complicated things than this... i DID NOT mess up the install... period.
Ill never own anything like this again!
I cant wait untill my auburn lsd!!!!!
by the way its insane how much better this truck drives... its like a brand new truck with out that thing.

sounds like your carrier might be broken or something. I had a similar problem with a lockrite (or silmilar), and when the first set blew up, it blew the carrier out of specs. Good luck dealing with them. I would doubt they would upgrade you to another brand's stuff, but crazier things have happened.
The carrier may have been slightly out of spec as where a brand new carrier would set, but I checked it for the 2 bearing surfaces and they were parrelell to each other... Richmond designed the no slip not to use shims (stupid design)... If you had a worn carrier with a locker that used shims you could put shims in to take up the extra space and it would not casue any issues... they used that style with the lockrite, but the no slip doesnt have shims.
Ya, all im really looking for is my money refunded, or a new replacement to sell on ebay.
