HEADER Questions
So I am buying a new set of headers for my '96 1500 and I was curious if i can run my truck with just straight headers and disconnecting the O2 sensors, just for a day or so.. Would it cause the engine to run erratic air/fuel mixture or whats the deal?
It'll bring a smile to your face[sm=grinangel.gif]. Much more powerful sounding truck that's certain to turn heads. Truck will run much stronger but just as smooth.
There is only one way to see how it'll be. Just do it!
P.S. your mileage will drop to 1/2 what you get now, but for a couple days it'll be nice...

My truck ran without a hiccup when I had open headers. If you already have 8 MPG you'r O2 sensor might already be making your truck get terrible mileage. If not, then yeah 4 MPG it is. And if there are no mechanical problems with your engine, it should be just like mine. It'll run fine, and if not, then an O2 sensor will still not do anything about that other then regulate the amount of fuel gets injected. Meaning if it now runs bad open headers will not make it any worse. Just lounder.
Haha alright well i got the headers today from Summit. I got home and got right to it. The first two bolts towards the front of the manifold on both sides were really easy to unthread thank god. Until I got to the back of the manifold. Two bolts stripped to **** so i got sick of it and pryed the manifold off of the block.. worked perfect.. But it turned out the the two last bolts in the back were snapped. So I still have half of a bolt inside the block on a couple. So im stumped.. But I did start the truck with no manifolds (I know thats probably the worst thing you can possibly do due to no back pressure, but it was only for a second). IT SOUNDED BADASS
