99 Ram 1500 Hard Start/ Bad idle
My friend is feed up with his 99 ram 1500 4x4. Sometimes his truck is hard to start and the idle sucks really bad (Stumbles and dies alot). I know he needs a plenum, but that shouldnt make it that bad, will it? We are doin a plenum today, and i was wondering if there was anything else that would do this.. it has a new throttle position sensor. I was thinkin fuel delievery problem but that starts to get really expensive.. So if anyone has ideas/comments lemme know.
His Idle Air Controller (IAC) could be sticky or worn out. It is on the back of the throttle body. Also since the plenum is leaking, he is not developingthe correct vacuum inside the intake manifold which would cause the Manifold Air Pressure Sensor (MAP) to provide low values to the computer. The MAP sensor is located on the front of the throttle body.
Either of these, in conjunction with the plenum gasket, could be the cause of the issue. While fixing the plenum gasket, pullthe IAC off and clean it. Do a searc hhere on the forum for recommended procedures to clean the IAC.
Hope this helps.
