No why is the easiest step always turn out to be the hardest? Im installing intake today and when I try to install the S-Bolt I do not have enough clearance to turn it around. I am bering very careful to not dethread the TB location...any creative ideas out there? should I just bend it for the install down a little and once in bend it back up?

I hate to do that but that all I can figure out, thanks for input people.

 

Cut it, and re-thread it. There is a bolt on there that you can re-thread it with right? if so, then you can jsut cut the bolt to the right size and re-thread it. Thats what I had to do.

 

THe DIY shows 4 inches, I think I need 4.5 for this aftermarket intake and they gave me 6 inches...idiots. Im gonna have to go out and now buy a tool to cut bolts (which I should have anyway) and a rethreader...fun fun...just want the thing on lol.

 

Just cut it with a hack saw. Thread on anut first, cut it, and maybe file or sand the rough edge. Then when you un-thread the nut, it straightens out the threads. No need to rethread.

or while ur at home depot just buy a peice of threaded rod the same size and cut a peicebend on to size u need thats what i did had to make 2-3 but i did it......

Thats a good idea also...ok stupid question time...what is the best way to bend the rod? my braint hink vice grips and hammer but I know there a better way.

 

I actually went to Harbor freight and got a brake line bender for like $5. I didn't care if it broke, I just wanted it to bend a rod twice and I would be happy. It did the trick, and worked great, and I could measure the angle right. What's great is it didn't break. Make sure if you do get one, to get the metal one like I did.

If you buy a long enough 1/4" 20 rod you can actually bend it by hand (or by glove actually) on the corner of a heavy metal of concrete obect . I have a HD equipment rack that I just feed the rod thru the rack adjustment holes and use it to bend them.

vise grips also work well, but use nuts to spare the threads. Search on the forum here and there have been several posts with the specific dimensions of the S-Bolt. A "small space" hack saw is fantastic for cutting the rod and the bolt under the truck's hood by the firewall if installing a round air cleaner.
