Default CEL HMMM....UPDATE

Well... here is a good one for somebody. I was pulling from stop sign today and suddenly my truck was bogging down. Well it continue to have no power for a couple of miles until I reached home. The truck stalled out on me in the driveway. I came back out a few minutes later and no problem other than the CEL came on. So I take it to Auto Zone to get the code checked and they tell me it a Speed Output Sensor. Well they turn the CEL off and before I get out of the lot it throws it again. Strange thing is the truck is running fine now. Anybody got a clue what the SOS sensor is or where its located. I'm lost on this one.

There are 2 speed sensors, one on the Tranny, and one in the rear differential.

The code should tell you which you need to change, search the forum here of a list of codes and match that number.

Hey I appreciate that.... One more question. I ran into this problem on another vehicle I had when I replaced the sensor with a non OEM part IE., Auto Zone aftermarket, I could not clear the code. Have any of you guys had any luck replacing the sensors with non OEM parts.

Also, does that sound like a problem that speed sensor going bad would cause, loss of power stalling but only temporarily?

Is your truck an '88 or is that a typo?

Well it was my Speed sensor... And if anyone else has the same problem, I found the sensor at Advance for $16.98. It was easy to put in. The sensor is located at the rear of the tranny on the driver side, just a little note, get ready for some tranny fluid to spill out cause it does when you take this sensor out. I was a little worried about a non-OEM part not tripping off the CEL but after taking off the negative battery cable and reseting the computer it was gone for good and the truck runs great!
