Default 46RH or 46RE

Here is the issue.
I'm about to get new tranny for my ride.
Original is 46RH - Hydraulically controlled unit.
Should I get the original one, or change over to 46RE - Electronically controlled unit.
How difficult would be to do this??
Can I change over to newer controll unit (OBD II) without changing anything on the motor side?
Can someone point me in the right direction.[sm=confused06.gif]

I think that you would be opening a big can of worms should you try to go up to ODB2 and a 46re tranny. You'd at a minimum need a new PCM, wiring harness, and sensors from a ODB2 truck and I'm not even sure that it would work then. The instrument panel cluster in the dash might even need upgraded as it receives it's info from the ODB1 computer.

That's just my thought on the issue, somebody else may have more specific info from trying and or succeeding with the same swap.

Locally (craigslist New Orleans)

Someone is selling a "new" tranny for a 1990 dodge ram. It had front end damage and they put the 360 in a shrimp boat, but I went and looked at the tranny, and it looks good. Guy want 500 for it and he has the recipts. The thing is........ its a three speed HD tranny, and I would like the gas savings you get from OD.

I don't know about your situation but I need a 46re.

Here is the deal.
No more 46RE
I just called Dr Evil and they can get me 46RH without a problem.
I don't have to mess with all that wiring for OBD- YEAH[sm=coolness.gif]
I'll just get abad a**46RH

You'll like the Dr. Evil tranny. I've been running mine for the last year (46re - Pure Evil) and am very satisfied with it.

You will find a lot of shift improvement in it. My mechanic actually thought it shifted too hard, but I like it. No more of that soft purr between gears. WHen it's time to shift, it shifts and the power just keeps going to the wheels.
