Default outer knuckle swap

has antone heard of or does anyone know whether the outer knuckles from a late 70's early 80's dana 44 front end will fit where the outer knuckles go on a 98 ram 1500 dana 44? are the u-joints in the axle shaft the same in the two diffrent generations? im looking to install manual hubs on my 98 but i cant really justify the 1900 bucks for the kit by dynatrac. if anyone has any info, that would be great. thanks.

Default RE: outer knuckle swap

i have pondered this idea myself but I have found out that it is impossible. My dad has a 87 dodge 2500 with a dana 44 front end, as far as the knuckle goes, it probably would fit, but the steering is completely different. His steering hooks to the left knuckle directly (no bar from pitman arm to right knuckle. I thought about changing the steering over, but that would require too much work for me. FYI the pitman arms, and the steering boxes would have to be changed, I don't know if the steering shaft would work either, but it probably would.

All of this that I stated does not even begin to consider if the axle are the same, they probably are, but I'm not sure.

I considered doing this swap because I wanted to put a spool in the truck, and get better gas milage. What makes you want to do this
