Tranny problem????
Monday morning when headin to work around 7am I got on the freeway and had no power. To me it feels like the truck is not down shifting and is starting in 2nd gear. No check engine light on and no codes. I can feel it shift but it is very quick... at times it hangs up in 3rd gear until I let off then it shifts into 4th. Any ideas???? Or is the tranny toast????

The "having to let off" to get it to shift into O/D is a common symptom of tranny problems. Like I've said before in other threads, my 1995 Dakota with the 5.2 had that same problem. I just dealt with it for the several years I had it, never got worse so I never fixed it. That and, at the time, I was a college student with no graduated RN wife to give me money for car upgrades/mods/repairs.

I had the same problem when I first got my truck, First i changed tranny fluid, didnt help a whole lot and then I added this transmission cleaner called justice brothers. It cleared up most of my troubles after, i ran that for about 1000 miles I changed tranny fluid and filter,Now the truck shifts fine into overdrive, the only problem i have had is the truck likes to slip while in town like in second gear accelerating to 25 the rpms jump and then the transmission like catches or something. All i can say though is doing all that kept me from getting a new tranny, Ive got 14000 on it since i did that and the originaltranny has almost 218000 on it.

Your Governer pressure solenoid and Governer pressure sensor are malfunctioning. A temp fix is to replace them. You can probably buy some time before an overhaul by putting new ones in. I dont know how much they are from chysler, but the store i buy my parts from sells them for around 150 for both.
But you are going to need an overhaul sooner than later if you keep driving it with the solenoids like they are.

Draned the pan last night and the fluid smells burnt [].... a little metal swirls but not much.
When i had the tranny done 65,000 miles ago they installed a shift kit. Is the Governer pressure solenoid and Governer pressure sensor seperate or are they part of the shift kit????
Thanks for the help in advance...

RE: Tranny problem????
My tranny had a similar problem awhile back and I found that the TV linkage cable from the throttle body had become disconnected at the tranny. The actual cable end had stayed connected, but the connection that holds the cable sheathing to the tranny had come off it's mount. This prevented the cable from sliding through the sheathing as it is supposed to. Fixed that problem and she started shifting like she was supposed to again. Don't know how it came off, but it did.
Check that out and see if it's your problem.

This info is directly from the 2001 Ram manual I downloaded from the Merry Christmas Thread. Hope it helps.
