After redoing the heads and throwing them back in the engine, I need to adjust the valves, correct? If so, how will I be able to turn the Crank in order to adjust the valves?

 

stock rocker ? non adjustable ... you can crank the motor with out it starting by taking the coil wire off the coil...

 

Oh so the stock rockers are non adjustable?? So I can just throw em on and be fine?

 

It depends on how much they shaved off the heads. If they decked it 10 thou, throw her back together and be fine.

 

Crank bolt is 32mm or 1 1/4". Long 1/2" torque wrench or ratchet with a tube extension on the handle works well for turning the motor over by hand. Best to have the plugs out to do it. Not that you will need to as mentioned if not too much off the heads and the same headgasket thickness is used. Otherwise, may need different length pushrods.

 

So as long as I don't get the heads shaved, there is no need for adjusting the rocker arm/valve stem clearance?

 

It's been a long time since I did a valve grind, but shouldn't a good machine shop trim the valve stems to compensate?

Talk directly with the shop that did your heads and get them to put in writing exactly what they did. If they shaved the heads and/or block together more than 10 thou, tell them that you are concerned about valve clearance and want them to guarantess you won't ahve issues. If they won't guarantee it as is, ask them what they will do to guarantee it.

1) grind the valve stems down which may not be the best option.
2) obtain shorter push rods to compensate for the grinding.
