Default oil pump for v10 and idle problems

The truck runs fine except it idles poorly, bounces from 250rpm to normal after leting off the gas and almost sounds like it lopes at normal. idle air control is clean and not gunked up. Also i was thinking about puting a high volum oil pump on it to ensure longer like of the motor but cant find one and was woundering if the pan can be dropped without removing anything else.

The oil pump for the V-10 is a different animal than the 318 and 360 V-8 engines. Here's the pages from the Service Manual that provides the info you need. I may need to post it in multiple posts if I hit upload limits.

so im i correct in saying that the oil pump is built in the front cover and is driven by the crank shaft. very similar to my 2000 trans am oil pump, but it is its own unit behind the front cover. so i guess an aftermarket one would be really $ if some even makes one.

correct, if you are concerned about oil pressure, then replace it. But if not it should be fine

works fine so far, i just feel better seeing more pressure. it has 35 all the time. my trans am had 40 all the time and i put only a melling high out put pump on and now have 70 all the time even at idle and goes up with moregas until the relief spring opens which i dont know how hi it is as im more concerned with driveing. I was hoping to do the same with the v10 as having two more of everying to get oil too makes me feel better haveing more oil in their. does anybody know where the pressure sensor is. Is it near the the end of the oiling line or near the front i would rather see 35 near the end.

hey there fellow Fastlouis member...haha
The wierd idle...
Does it do this when you let off after driving?
Does it do it when you start it?
Do you have to hold your foot on the gas to keep it running all the time?

And your oil pressure is fine. In an LS1 that is high performance, it might be something to worry about (especially since some LS1's are known to spin bearings "Yikes"). And the oil pressure sensor is on top of the manifold in the back by the bellhousing i am almost sure. I beleive your oil is pumped from the front of the oil feed to the back so your seeing the end pressure.

no the idel doesnt do it when i start it, and no i dont have to two foot it.the man i bought it from said he changed all the plugs but two which are the more hard to get ones i will change them here shortly. I looked at the idle air control and it was clean but i still sprayed it with some pb blaster while running to clean it some more. I dont think its missing so i hope its not a coil. Just changed the oil today. If it matters the truck has no cats on it which made me a littel mad. I didnt look to see if their was a idle set screw on the tb or not to help. otherwise it runs great and i love the v10 already. and will buy a new tps sensor when money is more free flowing.

yes it does do it when i let off the gas. who knows where all the pvc connections are on the intake, are their any under it or at the back.

hmm sounds like the VSS to me... does the trans delay going into OD or anything like that?

Also, the IAC motor does get slow sometimes... There is a way to test all of this using a DVOM. Just google how to.

The trans feels fine so far and only has 6k on it as its new. Ill have to test the iac here later, mybe just buy a new one anyway seeing how they have so many problems. It doesnt do it all the time but if i had to drive it in roush hour pulling a trailer i would be pulling my hair out after awhile. I plan on getting a trailer to pull my car to the track so i will be doing more investagating here soon.
