i know this topic has been covered extensively, but not really what I am looking for.

I really need to lower my gear ratio, my question is canI do it with tools that I can rent, or buy(if not too expensive), I'm going to go with 4.88s.

I've put gears in a ford 9" before, but that was easy, because it was inside without brakes, and off the vehicle, everything was clean and brand new(including the rear end).

Also there was someone on pavement sucks that had yukon 4.88s
