Which truck should i buy?
well, truth is, he didnt own the truck for very long before the trans blew, but he throws money at his stuff so it was for sure taken care of while he owned it. he said it looked to have been taken very good car of when he bought it as well. I like it, but like i said, i still hav to go see the other truck before i make a decision. I will be posting up about the other truck tomorrow and everyone should vote...i will make a new thread for it with more details and a polling option.
i got the a single reg cab, i rebuilt it with a 5.9 b/c 5.2 just was cutting it! Longbed all the way "an 8ft bed that never has to be made?" what more could you ask for!!
haha...i dont even give a crap about gas prices anymore really...you can either pay them or you can pay them...or walk. If i can get 16-18 highway i will be alright. Anyone know what kind of tanks these come with usually and what the milage range for the tanks usually are? Used to get 420 mi to my 92 dakota ext cab v6 2wd auto
I believe #2, the short bed, will have a 26 gallon tank, and #1, the long bed, will have a 35 gallon tank.
Lets say you get an average of 14 miles per gallon on a highway trip...
26 x 14 = 364 miles for the short bed
35 x 14 = 490 miles for the long bed

Get the 5.9 and don't look back.
Mileage difference is only like .75mpg but the power potential is much greater in the 5.9.

I'm sorry but this is not true........I can honestly say there is a huge difference in gas mpg, I had a '98 Ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.9L and the thing wouldn't budge over 12mpg, EVER, and that's highway .....mostly around 11mpg most of the time city. Now I have a '97 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.2L and the difference is remarkable, I'm getting 15mpg city!!!! and haven't even taken it on a trip yet but imagine I will be getting around 17mpg highway, so if mpg is a big factor definitely consider this, if towing is a bigger factor consider how much you'll be towing and how often and see what you means more, yes the 5.9 had a hell of a lot more punch, but the 5.2 I'm finding is plenty powerful too.
If yours didn't budge over 12 mpg on the highway, then there was something wrong with it... or you drive to fast.
Stock before I threw the fastman, CAI, and exhaust on it, mine got 13-14-ish mpg on the highway when it was fighting a headwind, and with Winter blend gas to.

well after a long drive in the jag fighting the windy *** weather, i am back from looking at the longbed 5.9. Here are the results:
Looked like **** all-together. Rust, bad paint, lots of crud buildup on the interior, lots of peices on the interior cracked or missing, lots of lime and dirt build up on the underbody.
The transmission was leaking a **** ton of fluid. Enough it was dripping while it was running.
Tires were complete crap cheapy mismatches junk
Has straightpipes on it and wasnt loud at all...made me think of a weak motor right away.
Drive it and the front end would need major work. Steering wheel could turn 2 and 11 o'clock posistion till it made a difference. Most likely badly worn tie rods and balljoints.
Performance was very poor for the 5.9 (already knew that from the exhuast). Shifted alright, but nothing outstanging.
Asking was $2600 firm, i would not have given a dollar over $1250
The other truck will be my choice. It is in near perfect cosmetic inside and out and a little buffing will make it new looking. It has a very strong motor, new tires, and the font end was nice and tight. All it needs is a trans and then i wont even have to worry about the transmission going out in the near future like i would on the 5.9 that is gushing it out all over the ground. Now i just have to find time for my pops to haul it home for me since i have nothing to pull it with. (wish he would just give me his truck...its awesome!)

Give Wayne a call at APS Precision for the transmission. He may not be the cheapest or fastest around but imo he is one of the best if not the best when it comes to transmissions for these things.
