Also, if you are running a 14x3 or any type of open element, then THAT is why you are hearing that.

I hope you dis not buy a new cat.

I was shaking my head after two pages and no one said that....until the bottom of the second page when the gasket was mentioned.
I agree. Mine made the noise, and I noticed 2 things that contributed. The plastic on the bottom of the air box was warped. The gasket that goes on top of the throttle body, the one I bought was gasket material. I found a rubber one on a junk truck and put on there. The rubber one seems to seal off better. I had to tighten the clamp fairly tight, since the plastic airbox base was warped, but haven't noticed the sound since.

Mine makes the hissing sound as well (even after doing the plenum job TWICE) and installing a new gasket under the air hat. I've finally just accepted it as the way it is.

Crap..sorry sniper dave...I already threw out the packaging of the fel-pro gaskets...they should be in the 98 Ram parts manual in the DIY section. Anyways....Here is the parts numbers listed in the manual I found in the diy section...

Air cleaner to TB = 53030600

Yup, i remember paying under 2 bucks at oreilleys. Nice thick one too.

You have to make sure that the box is leveled then tightened. The compression clamp bolt (where you tighten it) should sit centered and slightly to the passenger side BEHIND the air hat to sit level. If you take the band off, you will notice there are pieces cut from the band to make sure that the throttle linkage does not get in the way. If it is a bit off, you will hear a hiss. Which also means dirty air in the intake.

There's a snake under your gas pedal had this problem, confirming it's the airbox
