2000 8.0L V10 with an EVAP problem
Okay, so my truck has an intermittant check engine light, what a pain! I took it to the local Tunex and also did some troubleshooting on my own with no luck so far. Maybe someone here can help. My CEL that comes and goes is a P1495 (EVAP leak detection pump solenoid circuit condition). So after downloading the codes and buying a Haynes manual I began to tear into my truck. It didn't take long befor I became frustrated because I was unable to find the components I was looking for. So off to Tunex it went, what a waste of money. It turns out that I missed the obvious sticker (I found it later), that said my truck was a California truck. I guess there are slight differences. Anyway, tunex changed the leak detection pump. That didn't fix the problem and I took the truck back to them a week later. They claim that they can't find the problem after much troubleshooting and told me that I am going to need to take the truck to dodge. I looked into it a little more and changed the purge solenoid. Well, I still have the intermittant P1495 code. Should I take the truck to dodge? I am thinking of trying to find a performance computer for my truck. Could the stock computer be the problem? Any help here is greatly appreciated.
Has anyone here had a similar problem? Part of the reason that I am suspecting the computer at this point is that it has one other intermittant code. It also has a p1765 that acts the same way, in that sometimes the light will be on and sometimes it will be off. This code is a transmission 12v supply relay control fault. I changed out the relay itself with no luck. Any idea's?
As much as I hate to say it, i would say take it to dodge. If you keep trying to figure it out yourself you may spend more time and money than the stealership will cost.
I have a 2001 5.9L, and I had an EVAP code that was not that exact code (I think mine was 042 - small leak detected). It turns out that it was the rubber hoses near the evap canister under the cab.
It sounds like you might have a problem with the circuit that is feeding the control solenoid. If you go find the "merry christmas" thread, you will find a link to a 2001 FSM. It will have pretty good diagrams of what the components look like - and what you need to look for.
Let me know if you have any problems finding it - I can rip the pages out of the PDF and e-mail it to you.
