Default Bigger Tips = Deeper Tone?

Would you guys say this is true? I've currently got 3.5x18" tips and installed my headers and before I get the rest of my piping welded up, I need to decide if I want new tips or just keep my existing ones. I've found a set of 4x24" tips that look reall nice and I am going for the deepest, loudest tone possible so I was wondering if any of you guys have experience moving from say a 3" or 3.5" to something like the 4x24" and what kind of difference was made, so I can decide if it is worth the extra money. Thanks.

I don't know as far as size wise but, my exhaust guy told me rolled tips produce a deeper sound. I know when I had my Dakota with a 4.7 and rolled tips it sounded deeper than my 5.9 does now. Hope this helps.

That may be true, but his question was if bigger tips equate to deeper sound. Since everyone's exhaust is different, he is more or less targeting people who have messed with different size tips. Honestly to answer your question blkbaretta, I don't know. Hopefully someone will come along with some knowledge on this subject. I'm curious myself.

Care to elaborate my good man ? I've never had anything bigger than 3.5" tips and I was wondering if since I am getting rid of the Super 44's and going straight pipes after the Cat it would be a good match to get some 4x24"s to help achieve a really deep, yet loud tone. I'm not sure if I know what "rolled tips" are; I'll have to look those up. Thanks a lot guys.

Thanks a lot guys. I just pulled the trigger on some 4x24" chrome tips for $76, which seems like a pretty good deal. I can't wait to get them and get the rest of my exhaust welded up. It should be mean...

Personally, I don't think it makes a system "louder". However, I think it aids in projecting the exhaust note to its fullest potential. I mean think about it...it goes through that 2.5" piping, and then all of a sudden, right at the end, it's forced to go through this giant opening right towards the end. The way those tips are shaped, it defiantly alters the exhaust note, and gives it that final echo effect. I currently run 4"x22" tips, and they work awesome. But that's only one good reason to buy them. The other, is they look fantastic. They make a truck look mean, and they hide any of the dinky alumnized piping. I plan to exchange my tips as well seeing how they were damaged last winter. I take it you got the Hedman Waz-oos? Those are the ones I plan to get (4"x24"). They look great on a big truck, looks custom, and project the exhaust note too. So good move on the tips for sure.
