Removing radio 1996 dodge ram
the trim that wraps around the dash to the ashtray pops off and there sits the for screws for the radio . gotta adjust the stering wheel down and you mite have to disconnect the acc. plug..
If you work reeeel slow and use a manual screwdriver it should take you about 10 minutes to get the factory radio out!
Start by pulling the ashtray out and remove the two screws behind it. Pull the drink holder all the way out and remove the two screws from behind it. It's been a while since I did this but I think there might be a couple screws in the plastic above your instrument cluster, and then take the **** off of the headlight switch. Remove the plastic dash bezel and note any wiring plugs you have to remove. You will now have access to the radio mounting screws. Remove them and pull the radio out. There will be a ground strap atached to the rear with a 3/8-10mm head bolt, and two plugs for the power and speaker connections. Remove the bolt and unplug the wires and Viola! You're a stereo remover!
If you are putting in a different radio you will need the mounting kit and adaptor plugs. Just reverse the procedure and Viola again, you're a stereo installer!
BTW, the Infinity sound system in those trucks use an amplifier on the back of each 6X9 in the doors so if you don't get any sound out of them the problem is either no power to the amp or a bad amp!

Just be very gentle when pulling the black plastic trim piece off the front of your instrument cluster and dash. If not, you'll crack it when trying to pry it off like I did. The whole job after that should take less then 10 minutes after that.
