Oil around thermostat housing?
So, I had the hood up a while ago, and I was looking around, pulled my airhat off, looked in the throttle body, down into the intake, saw some oil. Not too much, but enough. Then I happened to look down to where the therm. is and saw some what looked like water. Stuck my finger in it, oil. Looked around the water pump, and you can see where it is running down the face of my motor, and there is oil, not coolant, on the passenger side of my water pump. wtf? its not enough to hit the crossmember or anything in the front end yet, or the driveway, but it is there. I checked what I could of the valve cover, and it doesn't seem to be coming from there. There is alot of caked on dirt around my intake, between it and the heads, and on the front, but I think if I scrape it away, I might find that the oil is coming through under the front of the intake?? Is this plausible? Any help would be appreciated because I already have a bad TPS which I think is the culprit of my RPM surge and my TC lock/unlock, and my rough idle.... And I need the truck to make the money to fix the truck. Catch 22. Sorry for the long post, just wanted that out there. Truck is in sig, with 115K
I believe that it is possible that you've an intake gasket leak along the front edge of the intake. Since the intake manifold basically seals off the top end of the engine where the lifters are, there is a lot of oil splashing around in there. If your front gasket has a leak, more than likely the left front corner of the intake gaskets where two gaskets join together. The intake gasket is a 4 piece setup. 2 long gaskets between the intake and heads, and two shorter gaskets one at the front and one at the rear of the intake. You are probably leaking at the joint of these.
Time to replace the intake gasket and while you're at it do a plenum upgrade or at the minimum replace that gasket too. The upgrade is recommended though.

Thats what I figured. Thanks for the reply... just gotta wait for some money. Hopefully my stimulus package will take care of that!! On a side note, I took the TPS and IAC off, and sprayed them with brake cleaner to get the crud out of them, and no more surging at idle or on the throttle. I'm definately gonna fix it soon, possibly I'll mod the kegger. Pics if so!
