Default tranny, trouble shifting?

I have a 96 Ram 1500318, my tranny has been having trouble shifting at higher speeds on the highway, sometimes it stays in a gear at high rpms and will not shift untill I let off the gas. Any help on what that mean or how that problem could be fixed?

How's the fluid look, and when was the last time you did a fluid/filter change? Is the check engine light on?

I'm a bit **** about my cars, but the first thing I do when I buy a used vehicle is change all the fluids. Take a look at the tranny fluid and see if it's dirty or burnt smelling and decide from there if you want to change it. I wouldn't recommend a complete flush though...after time deposits build up that can be broken loosed with a flush and actually create more problems.

Let us know how it looks. It may or may not be your problem, but it's the easiest place to start. Make sure to check it at operating temp and in neutral to get a correct fluid level reading.
