ok here's your update, almost a year later! I ended up just driving the truck and other than a coolant smell after I drove it sometimes it really wasn't a big deal. Then the water pump started making noises. temps were fine for a while but I noticed it running a little warmer than normal one day and my heat stopped working. I put a new water pump on it, changed the stat and no more noise and temps are back to normal. I don't smell the antifreeze smell very often anymore. I think I have smelled a faint whiff of it once or twice but nothing like before. Truck is runnin' like the fine machine that it is. 90k miles.

hate to tell you man, but you shouldn't smell any antifreeze. Once or twice is gonna turn into three or four. You really should track down that smell.
