Default trans bands

i was told by a tranny shop that the bands dont usually need adjusted, then i called a dealer and they said that they dont even do that anymore is this true? i have a 2000 ram quad cab 5.9 with a 46re, it has 83000 on it. i just got the truck and wanted this done but i cant seem to find someone to do it. it seems to shift fine and the fluid looks as clean as new. also does a bad swaybar link make the steering feel loose or seem to have a loose feeling through the column when hitting bumps?

Your trac-bar sounds like its worn.
It feels like it goes left when you turn it right, and wanders? you are always turning to make it straight?

I was told this same thing about adjusting the bands by the dealer but I'd have them checked fairly often. When they get too loose they can let that anchor for the first gear band fall out which happend to me and several others. Once that happens it just doesn't seem like it's right again after that. I'd try and keep them adjusted to hopefully keep this from happening.

hometheatreman....hey my anchor fell out a few months ago if u remember, well i got it put back in and went to adjust that band(the one on the outside of the tranny) and it doesnt seem right....the adjusting screw i adjusted in to 72 inch pounds and back out 2 and seven eigths but it dnt look the same....the adjusting screw seems way to far in....if i have that set and put the locking nut on it the set screw is countersunk in the locking nut rather than the set screw sticking out of the locking nut....do you understand what i mean???...just dont seem like that screw should be that far in to me but maybe i am wrong....can that band be that wore out that it would make the screw that far in??? when i got it all back together i cant get it to shift out of first whatsoever now and before when the anchor fell out it would shift half the time and half the time it wouldnt....so what do you think of my problem or any answers???
