Default Harsh 1-2 shift, stays in 3rd after coming to a stop

Background:I got some water in my tranny when 4 wheeling.Gotit to my trailer at the trail and loaded it up. When I got home, I immediately flushed the tranny, changed the filter, and adjusted the bands. Fluid level is good and clean.

I'm having a very harsh 1-2 shift at low throttle positions and occasionally it won't come back to first when I get to a stop light or whatnot. The not coming back to 1st gear only happens after getting up to speed a bit and doesn't always happen.

I'm looking for some opinions on what to check, I'm gonna drop the pan again and recheck my band adjustments, etc. Could it possibly be something sticking in the valve body, or maybe a sensor that's gunked up? (FYI I cleaned the speed sensor on the tranny already).

Thanks
Jerrod

Oh yeah, a little more info.Tranny had no problems prior, its a relatively fresh rebuild with maybe 15k on it.

You're 46re tranny has the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts controlled by the TV cable that runs from the throttle body down to the tranny. The 3-4 and 4 - OD shifts are controlled by the PCM. Do a search here on the forum for info about the TV cable as I highly suspect that it is out of adjustment and causing your problem. I really expect that the cable sheathing has become disconnected from the tranny and is not allowing the cable to properly operate. I posted in another thread the 2001 Dodge Service Manual pages about checking and adjusting the TV cable. Search and find those attachments.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I didn't even think about checking the TV adjustment since it was ok before the trip.

I had knocked the sheathing connection loose from my tranny one time and it caused similar issues until I reconencted it.

Update:
Adjusted bands again, re-cleaned speed sensor on tranny, checked filter, fluid flow when in gear/neutral. All seems good.

When system is cold/warming up everything seems to be ok, however when it reaches operating temp it will occasionally stick and not kick back to first gear when you come to a stop. I can manually shift it into 1st or if I pound the pedal it will kick into 1st, but its not shifting down into it like it should.

Anyone have any other ideas? If I can't figure this out this week I'll probably drop it by the shop that did the rebuild and have them look at it. Just trying to work it out on my own first.
