Husband is having truck problems in little town!
they are getting no readings, no codes show up or anything. I just got off the phone with him and he wrote all this stuff down to take in with him tomarrow. Thank you so much for all of this. I really appreciate it a lot!

Ya I got it. Jackson's cool. But I prefer the Eagles. Did he ever record his own version of "Take it easy"?

that is the problem i had with my truck, and i took it to my machanic and he was not able to get a code,so i figured i needed a dealers comp. scanner (mech had snap on's scanner) but the stealership is exactly that i just took a gamble and bought a new ecu and i was fine.but like rabbler said it could be a cuple differnt things.
i wasnt stranded,i was in town,so i could make my own assesments, but if he's all alone in a small town it sounds like he has one choice THE STEALERSHIP. good luck i hope the dealership is a dodge one

sorry to hijack with such an important issue, but once in a while i get the ccd up on my temp display in the overhead console and once or twice my odo has said no bus when i was driving.... but i've never had any issues with it starting up or anything. Whats up with my overhead display (it does it probably once or twice a month for a day or two at a time).
Thanks.
Kenny
Thanks.

Don't know where Winslow is, but the mechanic there needs more training...to say it nicely! LOL
All the stuff RABBLER saysiscorrect, and is the proper way to diagnose the truck, but IMO I would not trust the mechanic your going to now to even begin to understand, mostly because he didn't already know there was a computer problem as evidence by the inability to read any DTC's with a scan tool. Honestly, your gonna save money taking it somewhere else, even if you have to tow it. If it does turn out to be the computer ( PCM )which is fairly common, your gonna have to have it at the dealership ( or somewhere with a DRBIII scan tool ) to re-program the VIN anyway.
OFFROADZJ: Sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere, and one you might want to get tracked down soon. Loose connections have a way of causeing other more expensive problems if they are not fixed. If you don't feel comfortable tracing your wires and connections, take it to someone that is.

If replacing the PCM is the end result, they can always take the computer back into a dealership at a later date. The truck will run fine with a PCM where the VIN does not match. Get him home first, then worry about the VIN.
Like Rabbler and some of the others are saying, there seems to be something shorted. It could be a wire leading to a sensor that is grounding out or an entire sensor that is bad. I had an intermittent miss problem that I traced back to the camshaft position sensor on the ditributor. When performing a tuneup I accidently pinched the sensor wire between the distributor and distributor cap and tore the plastic coating on the wire. The electrical signal from that sensor was getting interrupted by it grounding out to the distributor.
Good luck as I know what it's like to be stranded. I was driving from San Diego to Minneapolis about 1 1/2 years ago and burnt out a set of headers out on the middle of nowhere Utah. Took 3 days to get my manifolds overnighted there by UPS. Lucky for me I knew what the problem was and could fix it.

You all are the BEST!! Thank you so very much! Lets hope today with all of this aw3esome information my husband gets his truck fixed!
I appologize for this misunderstanding...my husband is sorta stranded....with out reliable truck that is but he is supposed to be out there working. If he didnt find a ride to the job site out there I should hear from him shortly and Ill get all this info to him.....maybe Ill just call that dealership myself?
Unfortunatley, the dealership is NOT a Dodge dealership....There is one though but all the "guys at work" told him the dealership was no good....IMO they have got to be BETTER than the Ford dealership the truck is at!!!
oh and THANK YOU to who ever moved my post to the right spot!!! I wasnt sure where this was supposed to be. THANK YOU

That really sucks. I have been to Winslow. That Eagles song is wrong, "I am standin on the corner in Winslow Arizona, and is such a fine sight to see," NOT TRUE. Crappy town. Junkies everywhere. No scenic view or nothing. BUT! There was a flatbed ford.

Notice the dead crow that was on his head.

Winslow is a small Route 66 tourist attraction town off of I-40 between Flagstaff and Holbrook, Az. There is nothing there really, other than the Statue of Jackson Brown. t wasnt very nice looking, but I was there in January, so it was probably not a good time. If anyone here ever gets a chance to visit Northern Arizona, I highly recomend going. It is a gorgous place. Painted desert, flagstaff, Sedona, Jerome, Grand Canyon. Awesome. You will never want to leave.
