Default Husband is having truck problems in little town!

Hello, my husband is broke down in Winslow.
He owns a 2001 dodge ram 1500, he has taken it to two shops up there one being a dealership. No one can fix his truck.

here is the problem

His gages quit working and he gets no fire...eventually he can get it started but it takes a while. The shops have run computer checks on it and looked everywhere but are comming up with nothing. Has anyone heard of this or can anyone PLEASE tell me whats wrong with his truck so I can call him and give him an idea what to do. He is missing ALOT of work over this.

Thank you so much,
Angel

check the fuses under the hood , then maybe crank sensor, cam sensor , check for spark , coil , fuel listen for the fuel pump to run , as soon turn the key in the on should hear a hum for a few seconds...

fuel prob wont explain why the guages dont work, are you meaning all of them like fuel, temp, batt?

the starter isnt bad? ive had issues with a almost dead batt where it would take several cranks to get it started and then it would drive with no issues. when i had the batt checked it wouldnt even get a reading...

got to ask, is he standing on a corner?? what no jackson brown fans here???

good luck

Ya I got it. Jackson's cool. But I prefer the Eagles. Did he ever record his own version of "Take it easy"?

Sounds like a network problem. Does the cluster ever say "no bus" on the odometer?

He just told me it says NO BUS on the odometer when the gages are not working.

I will call him back and read all of this to him so I can answer the questions. THANK YOU!!

OHHHH and he was on the corner yesterday. LMAO

If the cluster says "no bus" that means the cluster isn't receiving any information on the CCD bus network. Any computer that has failed can kill the CCD network. (including the cluster)
The shop should be able to monitor the CCD bus with their scan tool.
Some sensors can kill the CCD bus as well. Crank sensor, distributor sync sensor, TPS, MAP and trans temp sensor. These 5 volt sensors share the same power with the CCD network. If a 5 volt sensor shorts out it kills the power to the network.

If it won't start (no spark) and is says no bus on the cluster I would start unplugging stuff until the no bus message disappears.

Abad crank sensor is common for this condition.

Good luck
