Default Differential ? Need help quickly.

I finally got my front diff cover off. I took a break from the front and went to do the rear. Well, got the rear done and went to work on the front again. I finally got it off. Well, I noticed after I got the cover off that this piece had a sort of knick in it. It just was like it was knicked and rough feeling you know how when you knick something a little metal sticks up. I don't know how in the world it got like that as my happering and stuff wouldn't have affected that. Anyway is it okay to leave? Should I file it down or just leave it alone? I'm just a perfectionsist but how critical is this? Basically should I leave it alone or file it down? What would you all do?

Here are some pictures.
You can't really see it here just the piece it's on. It's the left C thing thats bolted in.

I'm afraid of the pece of metal thats stuck up a little to make it rough is going to break off then hurt something. Or should I not be worried about it? Any harm in filing it smooth?

no harm in filing it smooth, but I dont think that little piece of metal is ever going to fall off.

One more stupid question. When putting the diff cover on I'm afraid I'm going to get RTV inside the diff. Well after putting it on it smushes some out the outside but if you put your finger in the fill hole and feel around the edge you can feel where some has come to the inside of the diff cover when it smushes it down. So basically it's on the inside. Is this okay? I've redone the gasket on the valve cover 3 times. This is really worrying me. I want everything to be 100% perfect as I don't want to spend any more money on this darn truck. Is this okay or will it come off in there and mess something up?

if you let the rtv set it won't mix with the oil and come loose. think of it asglue, after it hardens it won't go back to it's previousform.

Also for the rear I didn't let it sit I just bolted it back up then filled it with fluid. Should I redo the rear or is it fine?

You should wait at least one hour to refill, more if it is cold out. I usually feel the RTV that might be coming out of the seam and see how it is setting up. If it comes off on my finger, then I wait. If I can touch it and it is getting kinda rubbery, then it is ready to fill.

Since you already filled it, i'd just leave it be. If you have a leak, it will be very small, and you can just redo it then. If you don't have a leak, then your good to go. Why redo it if you may not need to.

So is the some on seeping out the inside of the cover to where I can feel it on the inside with my finger though the bolt hole okay? I haven't filled it up yet I'm waiting to see if it's okay as I have no idea. I'm using The Right Stuff. I've redone it several times as I said so I don't know how not to have it come out on the inside a little. Is that okay or does it need to be redone?
