Default Valve jobs and porting heads anyone?

If anyone has got the experience, hows about a nice little DIY for those of us with less experience and less junk heads to practice on?

I've just been browsing around and I keep seeing how, it's all in the heads... Go figure, isn't that what makes the hemi such a wonder?

Anyhow, some details on tuliping the troat areas around valves as well as doing bowl blends would be nice. Maybe details of some porting too.

Just an idea though, any takers?

I polished the heads for my truck when I rebuilt the engine. It takes time and patience. I did mine over a two night period and the engine builder commending my work considering it was the first time for me. Technically, properly polished heads should be worked on for a week. You just have to eye how much of the casting slag is removed and be aware that you can really screw up the airflow for the valves if too much material is removed from the wall.

As for the valves/piston area, just use caution not to damage the valve seats. Overall, start with the heavier grade drums of sandpaper material and work your way up to the fine stuff. Be sure to wear a dust mask or you'll be blowing grey mucus from your nose for a week.

what kind of tools would be appropriate for doing mild head work? In essence for doing bowl blends, tuliping valve throat areas, and etc.

VW, what exactly do you mean by polishing your heads? combustion chambers, troat areas, ports? Please explain.

Polishing generally is just a smoothing out of all the bumps. Minor improvements

Porting requires a lot more skill and grinding. You actually reshape the ports and bowl area. Serious power improvement if done properly.

I dont believe a bowl blend will do much. From what I recall from looking at a head off a ram in the jy it didnt have much of a lip if any.

If the heads arent cracked (get magnafluxedto be sure)you could get the porting templates from Mopar Performance. Trackbuddy usedthe templateson his 99 5.2 Dak QC and saw .3 off his ets.
Could be a revised part #cause the ones I have arelisted for 92-98 Magnums,part # is P4876413.
