Exhaust question
im getting rid of the glass pack and planning on a Y pipe next week but im stuck between 40, 44 and 10 series flowmasters. also wondering if $325 is kinda expensive for a basic "Y pipe" installation from the shop? i want it loud but not to loud to where theres alot of cab noise at cruiseing speeds. all opinions will be greatly appericated.

Flowmaster 40 or Super 44. I think the 10 series will be way too loud. It's supposed to be about the same volume as straight pipes only have a different tone to them.
I like my Flowmaster 40. I sometimes wish it wasn't quite as loud but it's not bad. You can hear it inside the cab and its sometimes perfect other times a tad loud. Outside the truck it really sounds mean. I liked whatever I had before better though. It was a Flowmaster I just don't know which one. It was almost as loud outside the truck as this one and sounded maybe even a little better tone wise. Inside the truck you could barely hear it with the windows up not much louder than stock but outside it was nasty sounding. With the windows down you could hear it but it still wasn't loud like this 40 is. All while being almost as loud outside. I wish I knew which Flowmaster that was as I loved it. It was perfect most of the time. There were a few times when I wished it was slightly louder inside but most of the time it was perfect. With this 40 I like it but sometimes wish it was a little quieter inside the cab.

Now Ramsey, what do you mean by y-pipe? Are you having a new y-pipe put in from the muffler back? Personally, I think it's what your into. If you want it obnoxiously loud all the time, I'd go with the cherry bomb extreme. It's a single chambered muffler like the flowmaster 10 series, only it's much more affordable. If you want it very loud, but somewhat taimable at times, then I think the Original 40 series or super 44 (which is what I run) is what your looking for. My truck by no means is quite, but it also doesn't sound like it's cut off at the axles or something. I like the sound of a truck that has characteristics of open headers, but also has the ability to have deep rich tone. That's what the super 44 has broughten me (granted my cat is gutted and I run longtube headers)...but even before I did all the extra crap, the super 44 was still very loud and I loved the crackling and pop sound it makes. Anyways, just throwing some ideas out there. Either way, you can't really go wrong with the 40 series, super 44, 10 series, or cherry bomb extreme.
The cherry bomb extreme is ridiculously loud without a tailpipe on and a gutted cat. I put a 3 foot pipe dumped before the rear axle on it, which tamed it down a little. Maybe I can get some sound clips up soon, tailpipe and no tailpipe

if you want a deep rumble at idle with a loud roar at full throttle you need to go with shorty headers and a y pipe coming off the cat to split the pipe for the duals. and if your state looks to see if you have a muffler when they do an inspection just do like i did and get a used one from a muffler shop, cut it in half with a sawzall, gut it and weld the shell over the y pipe so you'll pass inspection.
How far do you drive it in a day? Loud may be 'cool' to you young bucks on Friday night, butif it is a daily driver, you don't want loud.
My super 44 takes on a drone at 55-60 mph that makes me turn the radio up. The nice thing is I can hear the engine working so I can get into or out of the gas to increase my mpg's.
Oh, I am sorry loud=fast...what was I thinking[8D]
