Default Dental Floss, Hair Dryer & Debadging

If you ever wanted to Debadge your Ram. OR just get some of the plastic stickers & BS off it is pretty easy. And you get ot find some interesting uses for household stuff. When you are done you will have a nice clean look with no clutter.

Things you need

Hair dyer
Dental Floss
Pair of gloves
Sharp Knife
Fingernails
Goo Gone A big bottle at least a pint Get at AutoZone, Advance only sells little bottles
Plastic Bondo Spredder It doesn't scratch the paint
Optional Chair & Beer

For the Dodge & 4X4 & dealer sticker on the tailgate.
These are the easiest. Use the Hair Dyer to heat a corner of the sticker, use it on high for two minutes or so. Use the fingernail to scrap up a corner, once you got the corner going you can slowly peel the whole letter/dealer stickeroff in one piece. IF not, reheat a corner and use the fingernail to get it started again.

Use the Goo Gone where the sticker was to get that outline off.

Emblems
This is your chance to use the Dental Floss. Start with a full package cause it breaks. It also bites so I wear gloves. You dont need to heat the emblem yet, but the dental floss is going to be your saw. Wrap Floss around a finger of each hand and slide the floss behind the emblem. You use the floss to cut the 3M type that glues the emblem to your ride. Just use the Floss like a saw on the 3M behind emblem. The floss will break a couple of times but that emblem is coming off.

What to do about the glue still attached to your ride. Ifis a small emblem just do the same as you stickers, a little heat & you fingernail. IF it is a big emblem the below under side moulding.A little Goo Goneto clean up and one less emblem. This method also saves the emblem so if you want to put it somewhere else, just use some 3M double sided tape.

Side moulding
Start with the floss. Use the floss behind the moulding to cut the 3M tape. You don't need to use the floss the entire lenght. Just go 3 or 4 inches in. This give you room to pull the moulding away from the body and use the knife to cut the tape. You can see were the tape is stetching when you pull the molding cut there. With a good knife the moulding will just pull & cut right off.
Now you need to deal with the left over tape. Get the hair dyer and the bondo spredder. Use the hair dryer to heat an end of thetape on the body you may need the fingernail to start but the spredder is easier on the hands once you get started. Don't use the spredder edge but use the side. Keep the hair dyer blowing hot on the tape and the spredder should scrape the tape right off. It will take some time to do it right, the tape needs the heat to loosen up some.
Once the tape is off a little Goo Gone cleans up. Again the moulding is in one piece and can be reapplied with 3M tape.

The Tail gate plastic piece.
This is a lot harder to do. The tape is different & will not come off easy. The dryer doesn't seem to help. The tailgate moulding is glued on with 4 strips from side to side and a strip on each end. Start with the floss on a top corner it will not get far but just enough to get your knife in. BE Carefull you can scratch the paint easy. Once you get enough cut with the knife it is really a matter of grunt work pulling the darn thing off by hand.

Getting this piece off & the glue cleaned up is hard. Use the Goo Gone & the spredder over & over again. Let the goo stuff sit for a while before you use the spredder. I spent a couple of hours on it and the glue is still there though a lot less. Tomorrow I will get another bottle of goo & try the bug & tar remover.
A couple more hours and I hope teh darn glue finally comes off.
