Default Do I want my headlights completely sealed?

As the title states do I want to have my headlights completely sealed? I was told that with the corner lights they should have a drain hole. Well, one of my headlights was leaking too. It gets moisture in it when it rains and would get water in it some. It had about half an inch of water in it at one point. This is when I decided to drill holes in the bottom of the housing to let it drain out. This worked well only when it rains it still got moisture inside. It seems to dry out after a few days versus when it didn't have these holes it didn't do this.

Well, while doing some other work I decided to take the headlight apart and reseal it. I popped the lense apart and cleaned it inside. I put it back together with Pertamax or whatever clear RTV silicone all around the edges. Will this hold it together okay? Or do I need more than this? I'm hoping the lense wont fall off. Anyway I still have the drain holes in the bottom. I think I have 3. Should I seal these up with RTV now that I've sealed the rest up? Or should I leave them there for drains? I'm trying to keep this thing from getting moisture in it.

Thanks guys.

Hmm.. I believe you should try to seal the entire housing. I've never heard of nor seen a drain hole.. But i've never looked for one either. Only reasoning I have is the bulbs burning/shorting out because of the moisture, Which could lead to getting newbulbs every month .

Why would you need a drain hole if it is sealed?

I would say seal it up. No moisture can get in, which = no need for drain holes.

I know if you have a hole in your headlight, it is usually considered junk because I believe they actually make a vacuume inside of them when they produce them to prevent moisture on the inside...

You have a big hole in them where the light bulb goes so I don't see how that can be right at all. Will these holes suck moisture in? I'm thinking incase mine isn't sealed 100% it would be nice to keep them so if they do get any water in them they can drain. I'm hoping mine are sealed up though so I may just go back and seal these holes up too. It should be easy to get the silicone out if I have to.

BTW will just silicone rtv hold the headlight together okay?

I do believe they vacuum test them for leaks, they just plug up the light hole temporarily. After they've verified they have no leaks, they move on.

Its not a permanent vacuum, just a temporary one to see if there are any holes BESIDES the one big one.
