what kind of axle do i have
my dodge has a sticker underneath the hood that shows what it is, but more likely than not you have a dana 60 I would guess. look on the bottom side of the hood and it should show you though. or if not, go to the closest oil shop, and they can tell you.
alright, hes got the answer for ya, I dont have a sport so I couldnt tell you. But again, if you want more confirmation, you should have something under your hood, or the oil place can tell you. But I would take his word for it. good luck with your endeavors whatever you are trying for. Although, I would stick with the same axel, Dodges run pretty strong axels.
It's a Dana 44 as said above and it's not that strong of an axle. It has a lot of weak spots especially if you are running 35" or larger tires. It's not the best setup out there. The rear axle is fairly strong but the D44 up front is why most people do swaps.
All the 1500's are the D44. You have to step up to the 2500 for a D60. The sports have no effect on the axles. The offroad package has the D44 up front trussed but it's still the same axle just a little more metal on the housing.

hm...my dodge is running a 60 up front, its a 98 1500 4X4 5.2 liter, I just went out and checked, although the axel may have been switched when it was in the wreck...so I dont know...

The rear is a Chrysler 9.25".
I only know the axles because I am dealing with a rear end issue right now. Everyone on this forum was very helpful to me in telling me everything I needed to fix the problem, and what kind of axles I had.
