Default 96 Ram 1500 Brake Upgrade

Alright so before you all flame.. I have done a search and read through many posts, but no one seems to have asked this question. I am looking for better stopping ability with my 1500 sport 4x4. It does have the factory towing package, and I plan on towing my race car behind the truck, but before I do this I would like to upgrade the brakes, 'cause they barely stop the truck as is.. I have looked at big brake kits and what not, but I'm looking to do one out of other truck parts. My question is this..

Has anyone used the 2500 front brake rotors and calipers on their 1500? It appears as though they will bolt right up in which case I see no need to go spend the $780 on a big brake kit.

Thanks for your help.

Default RE: 96 Ram 1500 Brake Upgrade

The 2500 rotors are an 8 lug pattern, so that won't work. I swapped my stock rotors out for a set of drilled and slotted ones, and used a good carbo-metalic pad with them, and that helped a bit. It wasn't a dramatic increase in breaking power, but it was noticeable. If you scroll down the page a little bit, there's a topic on a rear disk conversion. It's a little pricey ($550 or $799 depending on if you want a parking brake), but it looks like the hot ticket.
