Default Sputtering problems

I am having some problems with sputtering. I noticed it this weekend. I was doing between 50-55 mph and it started sputtering very bad. Bad enough to make me pull off the road. It happened each time I would get between 50-55mph. Today I drove it to my first appointment and it did the same thing. It also started doing it anytime I hit a hill. I finally got a check engine light and checked it. The codes were for general misfire and misfire of #1 & #8. I pulled the plugs and they looked fine. Made sure they were gaped correctly. I reinstalled and it did the same. I then re-ran the wires to make sure they were not touching and ran it for a little while this evening. It wasn't as bad, but it did it once real bad going up a hill. Any ideas? Your help is appreciated!
I haven't done anything different in my driving except use the AC this weekend when it started.

Thanks,
Joe

1 more thing; my back up lights went out last Monday. I checked all of my fuses and they are all good. Do you think these 2 things may be connected.
